Frame is designed for long-form writing with structure — novels, screenplays, serialized web novels, long essays. For short blog posts or notes, the planner and linter may feel heavier than needed.

Yes. Install the desktop app and use the local editor, planner, and basic writing features without an account. AI features require signing in.

Where is my manuscript stored?

Frame is local-first. Every manuscript lives on your computer as a single local file and is never automatically synced to our servers. Syncing your work to the cloud is fully opt-in — it happens only if you turn it on yourself in Settings (cloud sync is on the roadmap and not yet available). When you use an AI feature, only the text needed for that request is sent for processing — never your whole library — and it is not stored.

Does the AI train on my writing?

No. When AI features are used, the relevant text is sent for processing and deleted immediately afterward. Nothing is retained for training.

Yes — docx, pdf. You can also export the entire project as a .frame file and open it on another computer.
